This week's website review is of csszengarden.com. To begin, the website is clearly made to look stunning. The layers and use of transparency create a unique design that is beautiful, simple, yet full of detail that slips into the background calmly, rather than overwhelming users. I especially enjoy the header that has its own unique semitransparent image contrasting with the background image in a rather pleasant way.
Although the site allows for scrolling, the length of the scrolling is brief, which allows for the site to display a fair amount of information without being overwhelming to the user. The usage of color-blocks for portions of the site are beautiful coordinated to create a theme that is diverse, yet the pieces seemingly fit together. This, along with the links to other well designed sites, creates a professional, yet comfortable feel to the site that fulfills the website’s purpose of demonstrating the scope of creativity that can be implemented utilizing html to design a website.
As far as site mechanics work, I came across a broken link (View All Designs button) which was quite the surprise, considering the quality look of the website. Other than the broken link, the site looks and functions wonderfully; my favorite part being that I could look directly into the .CSS file and see exactly what they did make this site look the way it does. I rate csszengarden.com a 4 out of 5 stars based on overall design, purpose, and functionality.
